Sunday, October 10th, 1926
It took some time to iron out the details, but the Poplars and United have agreed to a swap. Jersey will get 27-year-old CF Rip Wade with Lynchburg receiving 27-year-old RF Dutch Housie in return. A source close to the trade talks said the two clubs were initially looking to make a bigger deal, but discussions broke off late last night. The two sides reconvened early today and eventually settled on this deal.
Wade has chalked up a career batting average of .312 with 157 hits, 13 homers and 77 RBIs.
| || Cryin' Time: Pierce Retiring |
Friday, October 8th, 1926
Austin Republicans catcher Bill Pierce will retire at the end of the season, according to reports out of team headquarters. Pierce, 38, has been considering retirement since last season sources say, though he has declined to speak publicly about retirement.
"Bill still likes baseball," one source said, "He wants to play, but he also knows he's getting up in age and the skills are not what he wants them to be. He says it's physically getting harder to go out there every day. That's why he's hanging up his spikes."
